The pieces for piano recorded by Luba Timofeyeva are representative for the stylistic variety of Mel Bonis' piano works. She creates finest moods, deploys wide dynamic and coloring contrasts. There are light pieces as L'escarpolette or concert pieces as La ballade.

Most of her compositions are descriptive, as Près du ruisseau (near to the brook) which reminds of fresh flowing water, or Le moustique (the midge), which imitates humorously the abrupt and erratic movements of the insect.

Others are more grave and melancholic, such as La cathédrale blessée (the wounded cathedral), composed under the impression of the First World War, whilst the Menuet is composed in the old style. Desdémona Salomé and Mélisande are part of a series of portraits dedicated to legendary women, where Mel Bonis unfolds a large range of different "musical caracters".
