Laurent Martin studied piano at the Paris Conservatoire with Joseph Benvenuti and Monique Haas. He continued his studies with Germaine Audibert and Pierre Sancan. After winning the International Maria Canals Prize at Barcelona in 1973, he devoted himself to chamber music with the best musicians: Marielle Nordmann, Patrice Fontanarosa, REgis Pasquier and Gordan Nikolitch. Since then he has also given many recitals throughout Europe and has appeared with the orchestras of Grenoble and Auvergne, the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Wallonia Orchestra.
His repertoire includes Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert, Franz Liszt, Frédéric Chopin, Modest Mussorgsky, Federico Mompou and many lesser known 19th century french composers such as Georges Onslow, and Charles-Valentin Alkan of whom he is one of the world specialists.
He has recorded CDs of pieces by Onslow, Alkan, Gounod, Mompou, Liszt, Chabrier, Schumann, Skriabin and others like Mel Bonis.
