Jean-Marie Trotereau began studying the cello at the age of six. He graduated with awards from the cello and chamber music departments of the Toulouse and Paris Conservatoires. At the invitation of the Finnish Ministry of Culture, he studied one year with Arto Noras. He won the national Vino Del Mar Competition in Chile and the first prize in the Vierzon Sonata Competition.

In 1985 he became solo cellist of the Auvergne Orchestra. He performed as a soloist in France and abroad (Festival de la Chaise-Dieu, Madrid, Sarrebourg, Athens, Amsterdam, Radio France Paris,...) and dedicated himself largely to chamber music. In 1987 he founded a string trio, the Trio Sibelius. He has recorded 3 CDs and frequently performs in recitals with piano and other groups, covering a very large repertoire.
